FAQ

Short answers to common questions, from setup and cost to privacy. Each answer links to the page that covers it in full.

How should my team set up HeyDeer?

Start from how your team merges today: see Teams without code review or Teams with human reviewers.

Do I need to configure anything first?

No. HeyDeer reviews against the whole repository from the first review. Add AGENTS.md, repository checks or review instructions later, for the gaps your first reviews show. See What HeyDeer reads.

When does HeyDeer start reviewing?

As soon as someone comments @heydeer review or starts a review in HeyDeer. To review pull requests automatically, turn on automatic reviews when HeyDeer asks after setup, or have a workspace admin choose a Review schedule in Workspace settings → Review rules. See Automatic reviews.

Which platforms does HeyDeer support?

HeyDeer works with GitHub, for organizations and personal accounts. See GitHub App and permissions.

How is HeyDeer priced?

In credits, for the work each review or fix does. There are no seat fees: the whole workspace shares one plan and balance. See How credits work.

What does a typical review cost?

It depends on the size of the change and the review depth, so there’s no fixed price per review. To estimate a monthly cost, use the calculator on the pricing page. See How credits work.

Are reviews of public repositories free?

Yes, up to a fair-use limit. Reviews over the limit use workspace credits, like reviews of private repositories. See Public repositories.

Does HeyDeer train on my code?

No. HeyDeer doesn’t use your code, instructions, or review results to train its own AI models. See Security.

Which services process my code?

HeyDeer reviews and fixes code in temporary Vercel sandboxes in the United States and never stores your code. It sends code and review context to models directly or through AWS Bedrock, OpenRouter and Vercel AI Gateway. See the Privacy Policy.

If your organization has data residency or contractual requirements, contact HeyDeer before connecting a repository.

How do I stop HeyDeer reviewing a pull request?

Comment @heydeer pause on the pull request to stop automatic reviews there, and @heydeer resume to restart them. See PR comment commands.

Can HeyDeer fix the findings it reports?

Yes. Use Fix with HeyDeer to select findings, add instructions, and request changes in a separate PR targeting your original PR’s branch. You review and merge it.

Which models does HeyDeer use?

HeyDeer routes each part of a review, such as looking for findings, verifying them and applying repository checks, to the model that suits its difficulty and type. A single review can combine OpenAI, Anthropic, Kimi and GLM models.

Which languages can reviews be written in?

Choose Review language in Review rules; code and identifiers stay unchanged. See the list of languages in Settings reference.

How do I contact HeyDeer?

Use the contact page. Include a link to the pull request or review if you have one.
