How credits work

Credits pay for reviews and fixes. Everyone in a workspace shares one balance, with no seat fees.

How reviews are charged

All plans include monthly credits. A new workspace starts with 1,000 credits in its first month on the Free plan. Every plan, including Free, can add credits at a base rate of $10 per 1,000 credits.

A review is charged for the work it does: larger changes and changes that need more investigation use more, and Deep uses more than Standard. The charge is final when the review finishes.

If credits run out during a review, HeyDeer does not interrupt it and covers unpaid usage.

What uses credits

SituationCredits
A review that finishes, including one with no findingsCharged for the work it did.
A review of a new push, or another review of the same PRA separate charge.
A review of a public repositoryFree up to a fair-use limit, then charged like any other review.
A fixCharged for the work it did.
A review that stops before it starts, for example canceled while queued or replaced by a newer pushNothing.
A review canceled after it started, for example because its PR closedKeeps the credits already used.
A review that failsReturned in full.
A review that fails after calling a connectorKeeps the credits already used.

HeyDeer returns credits automatically as new credits, valid for 14 days, listed as Returned credits in Usage & billing → Credit history.

How fixes are charged

Fix with HeyDeer uses the workspace’s balance and counts toward its usage limit. Opening the findings page and preparing a fix are free.

Once HeyDeer starts changing code, it charges the fix for the work done.

A fix canceled or failed after that point keeps the credits it used.

Unlike a review, a fix stops if the balance runs out. Adding credits doesn’t restart it; request a new fix.

Where to see usage

Usage & billing is available to workspace admins.

WhereWhat it shows
Usage & billing → OverviewAvailable credits by type and expiry date, and whether they will likely last the period.
Usage & billing → UsageCredits used by repository, pull request, review, or task.
Usage & billing → Credit historyEvery credit added, used, returned, or expired.

When credits run out

If your balance runs out, HeyDeer doesn’t start new reviews.

When an automatic review can’t start for a billing reason, such as no credits or a reached usage limit, HeyDeer comments once a day on the first such pull request in each repository with the reason and a link to the plan and credit options. The HeyDeer Review check shows the same on every pull request.

Adding credits doesn’t restart the refused request. Request a new review; later automatic reviews start as usual.

On a paid plan, HeyDeer emails the workspace when credits run low, unless auto-reload is on, and again when they run out. See Notification email.

On Free, add credits, wait for the next monthly refresh or upgrade. On a paid plan, turn on auto-reload to add credits automatically. To cap usage, set a usage limit.
